| Again, God is reminding me of His grace. The last couple of months, my professional career has been tested...literally tested. To be a Sr. Management Analyst with the City, I have to take a written test, which if I pass, will move me onto the next phase of an oral test (interview). I have heard of people taking the written test 5-7 times, and never passing. And, on the average, most Sr. Management Analyst have taken the exam 3 times before promoting. So, I began preparing the materials and studying for the exam in Oct '06. PTL that on my first try, I was able to "make it to the next round." Yesterday, I had my interview. And, for the last two weeks, I have been looking over my body of work, and thinking of possible questions that I would be asked: what in your experience and education has prepared you to be a Sr. MA, what are your experience in supervision, discipline, budget, grants and contracts, equal employment opportunity practices, presentation, etc... And, the closer I got to Aug 10th, 2:10 pm, the more nervous I got. And the more nervous I got, the more I asked people to pray for me. Well, God continues to show me His grace and faithfulness, despite my often little faith. The interviewers showed me such favor, I knew it was from God. One interviewer said that my responses were "fascinating." And, typically, they run for 15-20 mins. Well, mine was more like 30+ mins. And, at the end, one interviewer said, "Just to let you know, I also promoted to Sr. MA in four years. So, it can be done." PTL that we don't have to do things on our own, that He is with us at all times, and that He chooses to show His favor upon us. | | |
| I don't blog very much. But, lately, I've been grieving morality...it's made me think the following... A few years ago, when a highly popular president confessed that he "did not have sex" with his intern, the nation was in an uproar. People were outraged at his lack of immorality, his attempts to cover up what he did, and his fake "confession" to come clean.
Now, a few years later, in a place closer to home, when the Mayor announces his divorce from his wife, which he "takes full responsibility for" (aka, he had an affair - a few years ago, his wife filed for divorce because he took his best friend's wife on a trip while she was recovering from cancer), no one blinks an eye. Sure, he says it's a private matter, but for someone who is so public, is there really the luxury of privacy? And, when their "private" matters are an indication of a lack of integrity and a lack of morality, to what extent should we voice them?
I am seriously grieving the loss of morality in our world. It's no longer a localized "liberal" thing anymore. It's spreading throughout the nation. And, as all eyes are on us, it impacts the morality of the world. It's definitely a sad thing to hear students in other parts of the world say things like it's okay to cohabitate, get divorces, have extramarital affairs, and so on, because Americans are doing it.
| See, What a Morning See, what a morning, gloriously bright, With the dawning of hope in Jerusalem; Folded the grave-clothes, tomb filled with light, As the angels announce, "Christ is risen!" See God's salvation plan, Wrought in love, borne in pain, paid in sacrifice, Fulfilled in Christ, the Man, For He lives: Christ is risen from the dead!
See Mary weeping, "Where is He laid?" As in sorrow she turns from the empty tomb; Hears a voice speaking, calling her name; It's the Master, the Lord raised to life again! The voice that spans the years, Speaking life, stirring hope, bringing peace to us, Will sound till He appears, For He lives: Christ is risen from the dead!
One with the Father, Ancient of Days, Through the Spirit who clothes faith with certainty. Honor and blessing, glory and praise To the King crowned with pow'r and authority! And we are raised with Him, Death is dead, love has won, Christ has conquered; And we shall reign with Him, For He lives: Christ is risen from the dead! http://www.gettydirect.com/lyrics.asp?id=27 We sang this for the first time at MBCLA...what a true representation of the glorious celebration of Easter.
| If you only had 2 days to live, how would you spend your time? Would you try to amend the wrongs you've done? Would you rush to straighten out your financial and inheritance matters? Would you try to do everything you've secretely wanted to do but never had the courage to do them? Would you try to do something truly noble as the legacy you'll leave behind? On Wednesday of what we call Holy Week, Jesus knew he only had 2 more days to live. He knew what would happen to on Passover. He knew the pain and suffering ahead, and that he was going to the cross in 48 short hours. How did he choose to spend the last 2 days of his life on earth? Jesus choose to spend the last Wednesday of his life in seclusion in Bethany with his closest friends and with those shunned by society...Simon the Leper, an adulterous woman,... If you only had 2 days to live, how would you spend your time? "Love does not stop nicely to calculate the less or more; love does not stop to work out how little it can respectably give. With a kind of divine extravagance love gives everything it has." -- William Barclay | | |
